Try TiVo -- its the highest MAF (mom acceptance factor) product I've ever encoutered. Same for WAF (wife acceptance factor).

TiVo is definitely easy enough for moms--my mother-in-law fell in love immediately. However, loving the ability to record your favorite TV shows is different than loving e-mail!

My mom and her husband are extreme technophobes, but WebTV was easy enough to break down barriers for them. They had resisted all internet- and computer-related technology until WebTV arrived. After a year or two of that, they actually bought a PC (which they use almost exclusively for e-mail and web browsing).
