I would have written more about the CTP except that I cannot get it installed into my Virtual PC session.
I have attempted installation of the May Community Technology Preview eight times and have been unsuccessful each time. I am either getting this error 2337 or a message indicating that CppCodeProvider.dll could not be written too. I have noticed one other blogger with this same exact problem, so this is not unique to my machine.
Any answers?
I am using a VM running Windows 2000. I created a virtual CD from the downloaded ISO file using the virtual CD control panel utility; however, I know that other people were successful doing this too.
I can't offer any help, but can sympathize: I tried installing 4-5 times to XP and Win2k3 in a VPC with no luck. I, too, had the CppCodeProvider.dll error, as well as one or two others.

Extract the iso to a VPC file share on the host machine and then run setup in your VPC.
Try it.. it might work or it might not.
It worked for me with the March CTP.

I loaded the ISO in a virtual CD and then copied all the files into a folder in the VPC session and ran the install from there.

I could not mount the ISO as a CD in Virtal PC, however I didn't get the same error as you did. I ended up using Alcohol 120% http://www.alcohol-software.com/ (similar to daemon tools - which is free - http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5) to mount the ISO image to a CD drive and the install ran fine from there.

If you had a previous version of 2005 installed remove it, remember to remove the old version 2 framework and j# installations as the whidbey installer doesn't.

Hi,
I did have exactly the same problem. I've solved it by burning files into DVD. I guess you can alos just extract files to a folder and share the folder to VPC.

Works well from my side:
- VirtualPC running fresh WindowsXP sp1a
- Installed via burned DVD because VPC didn't recognize the CTP ISO (!!!) but fortunately Nero did...

I have had a similar problem with the March 2004 CTP disc. I have tried installing it 6 different times and it fails everytime. :(
