Rise of Asperger's in Silicon Valley
I discovered this article about the rise of autism and Asperger's (high-functioning autism) from Wired magazine. For those who don't know what Asperger's is, I refer to my earlier post on the subject.
Asperger's, which was once uncommon, appears to be on an exponential rise in Silicon Valley, because the area actually rewards and favors those individual who tend to be exceptional in math and technology. I love this quote:
"In another age, these men would have been monks, developing new ink for printing presses. Suddenly, they're reproducing at a much higher rate."
The article also mentions that Microsoft also offers behavioral training for children of employees who exhibit autism or Asperger's, so it is a good bet that Microsoft is an Asperger's haven as well, especially since the founder, Bill Gate, has been linked multiple times to the syndrome.
